No, one cannot place blame on you exclusively as the radio stations that had catered to the demographic that you belong to were wholly derelict in explaining jack doo-doo to you. I know as when I too heard Jimmy Page I had heard a bit of what I had thought was what I had been listening to for a lot of my youth. And the FM sstations were stereo and a huge plus...... WE on the other hand had been regaled with the music itself, the history of the artists and the additional access to it via OUR PARENTS' 45rpm's and the shitty low to no powered am radio stations of the 60's-70's that truly had sucked BUT it was all we had here. Thank Our God and my Mom and a sister of mine that I was afforded that fateful meeting with Jimi hisself! I was only 5 or so years old! He was pretty destitute from what I had learned.

One of my favorite Ronnie Earl tracks. Of the 8 times I have seen him in the past from 1992, he has played this 3 times. A very under rated guitarist. His sound is that of another realm.
